Turkish club Besiktas JK scored an easy 3-1 away win over Lokomotiv
Moscow at the Luzhniki stadium to stroll into the UEFA Champions
League First Group-Match Stage following a 6-1 aggregate victory.
Nouma on target
French striker Pascal Nouma dashed any hopes of Lokomotiv making a
comeback after trailing 3-0 from the Third Qualifying Round first leg
when he scored the all-important away goal in the 28th minute.
Although Lokomotiv defender Igor Cherevchenko equalised shortly after
the interval, the Russians failed to build on their momentum. Instead,
Besiktas regained the lead in the 72nd minute, when striker Nihat beat
Russia goalkeeper Ruslan Nigmatullin after a great solo run. Nihat
Kahveci, who also scored in the first leg, placed a rising shot into
the top of the net after dribbling past three Lokomotiv defenders.
Besiktas captain Tayfur Havutçu sealed a well-deserved victory when
he beat Nigmatullin from close range three minutes from time.
Minute silence
Before the match both teams observed a minute's silence in memory of
the 118 Russian sailors who died on the sunken submarine Kursk in the
Barents Sea.

Besiktas, of Turkey eased into the group stages of the Champions’ League by
crashing in three goals in Russia to secure a famous 6-1 aggregate victory.
Locomotiv were optimistic that they would be able to overturn the first-leg
deficit, but when Chyugainov's awkward clearance was intercepted by Pascal Nouma
after 28 minutes, any lingering hopes of a comeback evaporated. The Frenchman
had no difficulty beating Nigmatullin to score a vital away goal that left
Locomotiv needing five.
Dzhanashiya was full of running in attack for Locomotiv, but he lacked the
pace to escape the strong Besiktas defence.
The Russians did level the scoring through Cherevchenko after 50 minutes, but
the goal failed to inject any genuine belief into the home side.
Besiktas secured their qualification with a flourish. First Nihat gave the
Turks the lead on the night with a superb individual goal after 73 minutes.
Tayfur then rounded off a great night with a third goal just four minutes from
time.
